Residents of the Thame South ward will go to the polls on July 10th to elect two new members of Thame Town Council. The by-election was called following the disqualification of one Conservative councillor for non-attendance and the subsequent resignation of another.

Hussein Mirza and Margaret Bretherton have been chosen as the Liberal Democrat candidates for the forthcoming Town Council by-election in the Thame South Ward.

Under election rules officials are obliged to call a by-election if a councillor fails to attend a single meeting in any six month period. The by-election is likely to cost Thame taxpayers thousands of pounds.

Lib Dem candidates Margaret Bretherton and Hussein Mirza commented:

"If elected to Thame Town Council on July 10th we will both work hard on behalf of local residents. This election is not about party politics, but about ensuring Thame is protected from inappropriate development and gets better community facilities for all."

Hussein and Margaret have launched their campaign by promising to protect Thame from ugly and inappropriate development, to work with local police in tackling crime and anti-social behaviour and to fight for better community and youth facilities.
